After Israel's invasion of the occupied Gaza Strip in December 2008 - January 2009, the United Nations investigation, led by respected South African judge Richard Goldstone found that the invasion constituted "a deliberately disproportionate attack designed to punish, humiliate and terrorise a civilian population."
